New Directions

Events have a way of changing the course of one's life so drastically, that one just has to sit back and wonder at the speed and direction of the shift. I've spent the last 20 years or so doing mostly educational science illustration and needed to try my hand at something else. But recent forays back into the storytelling genre, namely, the dark faerie tales of Grimm brothers, the Magic Universe, the Labyrinth of Guillermo Del Toro, Philip Pullman's dark materials, and revisiting the countless wonderful fantasy and science fiction authors that I read as a young adult, has made it impossible to ignore my yearning and the inevitable and strange pull it has on my heart and soul. And all of a sudden, I find myself in another universe.
(*deep breath*)
So. Okay, then.
To that end, I have revamped my illustration website to reflect this new direction-- less science and more sci-fi and fantasy. I'll be adding more images to it in 2010 in the hopes of garnering more work in the genre. Luckily for me, the new year starts out with my painting on the cover of Fantasy and Science Fiction Magazine for Paul Park's story, "Ghosts Doing the Orange Dance."
Allow some room into your psyche for some strange and interesting phenomena.
I'm hoping this will be a good year.
